Karate Mühlbach triumphs at the Golden Cup

At the Golden Cup, the first national competition of the 2023/2024 karate season, Karate Mühlbach lived up to its demands and brought precious metal to South Tyrol.

The first national karate tournament of the FIK (Federazione Italiana Karate) was held in Orvieto on December 2nd and 3rd. Only brown and black belts were allowed to take part. Karate Mühlbach started with three athletes.

The 18-year-old Fabian Pezzei dominated his category (seniors, -80kg) and deservedly won gold. He won the first two fights 6-0, then the semi-finals 5-2 and the final 7-0.

The 15-year-old Frida Schweiger (Cadetti, +55kg) won her first two fights confidently (4:0 and 5:0), but lost the semi-final 0:5. In the consolation round she won the bronze medal thanks to a clear 6-0. The 18-year-old Florian Fiwickeler won his first two fights 3:0 and 6:0. In the semifinals he was leading 2-1, but was then disqualified. In the consolation round he lost 0-2 and therefore had to settle for 5th place.

“Our athletes are not only distinguished by the fact that they hardly receive any counterpoints, but above all it is their strength in the tactical area that makes the difference. The ability to adapt the strategy from one fight to the next is a testament to the high level of our athletes,” said coach Martin Pezzei, who would have liked to have seen all three athletes on the podium and therefore emphasized: “Unfortunately, what was not possible this time was possible We’ll catch up at the next national competition in February.”
