Rain of medals for Karate Mühlbach

940 athletes from 90 clubs took part in the FIK (Federazione Italiana Karate) Grand Prix Nazionale in Mariano Comense (CO) over the weekend. Karate Mühlbach took part with 19 athletes and achieved a total of 14 podium places in the two disciplines of Kumite (duel) and Kata (form competition).

Seven athletes from the karate school in the market town of Mühlbach took part in the kumite (duel): Laura Peintner (juniors, up to blue belt), Lorenz Mantinger (juniors, up to blue belt) and Darko Ostojic (general class, up to blue belt) won gold. Fabian Pezzei (general class, brown and black belts, -80kg) won the silver medal. Bronze went to Frida Schweiger (pupils, brown and black belts, +55kg) and Florian Fischnelller (general class, brown and black belts, -74 kg).

Ramón Motta (candidate, up to blue belt) was eliminated in the preliminary round. “If six of seven athletes reach the podium, it shows the strength of Karate Mühlbach and is the fruit of targeted preparation,” says trainer Martin Pezzei.

14 athletes from Karate Mühlbach took part in the kata (form competition) and won eight podium places: Gold went to Emilia Bruni, Julia Mair and Darko Ostojic. Laura Peintner, Anna Gallmetzer and Madleen Unterhuber won silver. The third podium place went to Laura Grünfelder and Aron Leitner. Maria Peintner, Gabriela Huber and Paul Fischnelller (all 4th place), Jasmin Kurtovic (5th place), Emma Peintner (7th place) and Greta Jenny Fischer (8th place) narrowly missed out on the podium.

“This national competition showed where we stand and is a successful dress rehearsal for the Italian Championship (for brown and black belts) in March and the Italian Cup (for colored belts) in April,” said coach Pezzei.
