Ancona: Zandarco takes bronze in the heptathlon

The general class Italian indoor championships took place in Ancona at the weekend. The local athletes cut a good figure, especially Simon Zandarco, who won the bronze medal in the heptathlon.

The 25-year-old from Gargazon showed a great performance in Ancona and was even in the lead until the sixth competition. In the end, Zandarco achieved a sensational third place. The flagship of SV Lana secured bronze with a new personal best of 5.210 points, behind Michele Brini (5.277) from Imola and neo-Italian champion Lorenzo Modugno. The heptathlete from Trieste won the “Tricolore” with 5.413 points. Zandarco, who is trained by all-around legend Gerti Bacher, shone in all competitions. Especially in the 60 m sprint (7.11), the 60 m hurdles (8.59) and the long jump, where he set a new record of 6.93 m. The heptathlon was also contested by Jan Fragiacomo from Bolzano, who came seventh with 4.717 points (also a new record).

Apart from Zandarco, no other South Tyrolean made it to the “Stockerl”. The Bolzano pole vaulter Nicolò Fusaro also did well, taking 4.90th place with 7 m. His teammates at Athletic Club 96, triple jumper Federico Lorenzo Bruno (6th) as well as 60m sprinter Lorenzo Ianes (8th), 800m runner Federico Mogetti (9th), 3000m ace Edoardo Melloni (7th). ), walker Niccolò Coppini (9th), high jumper Alberto Murari (9th) and shot putter Danilo D'Alessandro (6th) all made it into the top 10. Mattia Meneghini from the Bolzano club CSS Leonardo da Vinci came in eighth Place in the high jump (2.09 m).

South Tyrolean women remain below expectations

However, the title fights for the local athletes didn't go quite as planned. Linda Maria Pircher had the best chance of a top placement. The 22-year-old pentathlete from Burgstall took sixth place with 2.828 points. The three failed attempts in the long jump were her downfall, but it wouldn't have been enough for a medal anyway. Marlingen long jumper Anna Menz landed in 5.88th place with 8 m, pole vaulter Nathalie Kofler from Lana came in tenth with 3.90 m. For the Eggen 400 m ace Petra Nardelli (56.25), eleventh place no longer looked like a good result.
