Start of the season in Oberplanitzing: 150 young runners get started

Traditionally, the starting signal for the 2024 competition season was given on Sunday with the eighth edition of the “Georgs-Turm-Cross” in Oberplanitzing. Almost 150 athletes from the U8 to U18 age groups took part.

The focus of the cross-country race in Überetsch was the U14, U16 and U18 competitions, in which the national championship titles were also awarded. Giuseppe Tassielli won the boys' U18 race. The athlete from Merano Atletica narrowly beat Bolzano's Alessandro Rossetto (4,6) on the 18.14 km long route in 18.18 minutes. Samuel Olivetto from the South Tyrolean Running Club came third in 18.25 minutes. For the girls, however, the title went to Vipiteno. Lena Trenkwalder put Lea Sophie Egger from Bozen and Janina Wild from Nova Ponente in their place.

The boys' U16 title went to Laurin Marschall from LC Bozen. Marschall completed the 2,6 km run in 9.34 minutes and was therefore two minutes faster than David Gschliesser from Wipptal (11.33). The “Stockerl” was completed by Marschall’s teammate David Conca (12.12). In the women's category, Lilian Marie Andres from Merano was able to hold her own ahead of Johanna Herbst (ASV Deutschnofen) and Lina Wallisch from Bozen. The U16 and U18 races were also a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Italian Cross Country Championships on March 10th in Cassino.

In the U14 girls' category, Anna Thaler from Sarnen and Paul Werth from Kaltern were at the top. Many young talents from the U8-10-12 age groups also took part in Oberplanitzing. Filippo Pietrobon, Hannes Prossliner, Ivan Bacher as well as Hannah Rainer, Amelie Wieser and Greta Baumgartner secured their age categories.
