Schöpf and Lubello on the podium at the Italian Championships

Frederic Schöpf from Lana and Kevin Lubello from Bolzano took excellent second place in the U18 pentathlon and U20 heptathlon at the all-round Italian indoor championships in Padua at the weekend.

SVL talent Schöpf is already in top form in this young season. The son of all-around legend Gertrud Bacher, who was the U16 Italian champion last year, scored 3.479 points and was only beaten by Matteo Sorci. The all-rounder from Umbria secured the U3.604 Italian championship title with 18 points, while Marco Beccari (3.435) from Piombino completed the podium.

Silver also went to U20 ace Kevin Lubello. The 18-year-old heptathlete from Bolzano scored 5.103 points. The Lombard Tommaso Franzè won the “Tricolore” with a lead of 163 points. After five competitions, Lubello was still at the top of the overall standings, but in the end had to give way to Franzè. With a clear gap to Franzè and Lubello, Francesco Mattolini (4.728) also made it to the “Stockerl”. Lubello particularly shone in the 60 m (7.22 seconds), in the high jump (1.97 m) and in the 60 m hurdles (8.39 seconds).

Lubello's teammate at CSS Leonardo da Vinci, Mattia Graiff, had to settle for 4.270th place with 13 points. Lorena Lingg also took 20th place in the women's U13 pentathlon. The athlete from Vinschgau achieved 3.100 points.
