South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run: Comments on the race

Andrzej Dlugosz, winner: My form is currently very good. Last week I prepared for the race here in South Tyrol at over 2000 meters. In the last few kilometers I tried to maintain the lead over my competitors. I did that and of course a victory is always something wonderful - especially with such a backdrop and such weather.

Cesare Maestri, second: I wanted to start here last year, but then I was called up for the World Cup. This year it worked and I really enjoyed the race. I got cramps on the last climb, but I fought my way to the finish. The route is very difficult. Before the start I was already speculating about a place on the podium. That's why I'm very happy about second place.

Hannes Perkmann, third: I never, ever expected that I could make it onto the podium here. That's why third place is like a victory for me. The beginning part is very flat and not for me. I tried to stick with it there. On the climb, when it gets steep, I feel very comfortable and was able to get up to third place. I defended this third place until the finish.

Antonella Confortola, winner: It's always nice to come here. I knew that Agnes was very strong, especially at the beginning in the flat part. So I took it slow, but stayed on her heels. I passed her on the descent. We both have a hard time going downhill and both fell, so the runner who did less badly on the descent won today.

Agnes Tschurtschenthaler, second: That was a very tough race today. I'm happy with second place. I was a little clumsy on the descent, tripped over a stone and landed in the sand. Maybe I could have fought for the win without falling. But I lost to a great athlete and that's why I'm happy with second place. Elena Casaro, third: I divided the race very well today and just tried to go at my pace. I had a great battle with Edeltraud Thaler for third place. The fact that it was enough for the podium makes me very happy.

Gottfried Hofer, OC chief: A great day of racing in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage is history again. Compliments to all finishers, because everyone who has reached the goal can be proud of what they have achieved. As head of the OC, I think it's a shame that due to the nature park's regulations we are only allowed to let 1000 participants start, even though we had 1500 requests. But perhaps in the future we will find a consensus that satisfies everyone involved. Finally, I would like to thank all the volunteers and of course also our sponsors. Without the broad support, be it from the helpers or our sponsors, we would not be able to hold this event.
