Despite unrest in the team: Verstappen takes his first pole of the season

World champion Max Verstappen has secured the first pole position of the new Formula 1 season.

The Dutchman relegated Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc to second place on Friday at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir and was obviously not affected by the fuss surrounding his Red Bull team boss Christian Horner. For Verstappen it was the 33rd pole of his career. George Russell came third in a Mercedes.

The first Grand Prix of the new year takes place on Saturday (16.00 p.m.). After two anonymous emails emerged, Horner is still at the center of an affair involving allegedly inappropriate behavior towards an employee.
