Great: Widmann finishes on the podium

The World Cup season couldn't have ended better for Veronika Widmann: The 30-year-old sensationally climbed onto the podium at the last race of the season in Mont Saint-Anne (Canada).

Widmann had not yet made it to the podium in the current season. She achieved this feat in, of all places, the last race of the season: The Tramin native showed a perfect race and was only beaten by the Austrian dominator Valentina Höll and Nina Hoffmann (+ 13 seconds) from Germany. For Widmann, who was only one second shy of second place, it is not the first World Cup podium: she came third in Snowshoe (USA) in 2.

In Mont Saint-Anne, the South Tyrolean showed from the start that she feels comfortable: She took 7th place in the qualification before moving up three places in the semi-finals and thus confidently making it to the final. In this, Widmann literally grew beyond himself. The Italian champion crossed the finish line with the best time and then only had to let Höll and Hoffmann pass. The joy was therefore enormous. Not only with Widmann, but also with Höll, who won the overall downhill championship.

Bruni cheers for the men

In the men's event, the Canadians celebrated a home win. Jackson Goldstone came out ahead of Briton Ethan Craik and Loic Bruni (France). The latter grabbed the overall World Cup. The best Italian was Davide Palazzari in 15th place. The mountain bike World Cup season ends on Sunday with the cross-country races for women and men.
