After a three-man sprint: McNulty wins the Giro stage

Brandon McNulty won the 15th stage of the Giro d'Italia over 195 km from Seregno to Bergamo.

The 25-year-old American relegated Irishman Ben Healy and Italian Marco Frigo to second and third place in a three-man sprint. The Frenchman Bruno Armirail defended the leader's jersey, but his lead over former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas from Wales shrank by 33 to 68 seconds. Primoz Roglic follows Thomas two seconds behind.

The leading trio belonged to a breakaway group of 14 riders that broke away shortly after the start. The field let the drivers have their way. Healy was the first to pass the fourth and final climb of the day, but 25-year-old McNulty from the UAE Emirates team caught up with him on the descent. Ten kilometers before the end, Frigo caught up with the two.

On Monday the riders enjoy a rest day, after which the last six stages to the finish in Rome begin. On Tuesday there are five mountain classifications to be completed from Sabio Chiese to Monte Bondone.
