Alcaraz also retired early in Shanghai

After Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz has now also been hit. Andrey Rublev is now the last top ten representative at the Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai.

For Carlos Alcaraz, who is used to success, things are currently not going as well as usual. The world number two from Spain surprisingly had to say goodbye in the round of 1000 at the Masters 7 tournament in Shanghai on Wednesday. Alcaraz lost to Vienna starter Grigor Dimitrow from Bulgaria 5,2:6,4:6:XNUMX. For Dimitrow it was the first victory in the fourth meeting with the Wimbledon winner.

Alcaraz has not won a tournament since the aforementioned title in the grass “Mecca”. At the 1000 tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati he failed in the quarter-finals and final, respectively, at the US Open before the final duel with Novak Djokovic, which everyone expected, he failed in the semi-finals against Daniil Medvedev and the previous week in the Beijing semi-finals.

“I knew what I had to do,” said Dimitrov. “I knew I had to put constant pressure on him. He doesn’t like being on the back foot, I tried to put him in uncomfortable situations,” he revealed. The world number 19. Dimitrow now meets Nicolas Jarry (CHI-22). He has not won a tournament since the title at the 2017 ATP Finals.

Of the eight top ten players in the table, only Andrey Rublev (6) is still in the competition. The Russian beat American Tommy Paul 7:5,7:5.
