A Brazilian delights the tennis world

The Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia is surprisingly in the semi-finals of the French Open for the first time.

The 27-year-old beat Ons Jabeur from Tunisia on Wednesday with 3:6, 7:6 (7:5), 6:1 in 2:29 hours. Haddad Maia had previously reached the second round with her best result at the tennis clay court classic in Paris and is now the first Brazilian in a Grand Slam semi-final since Maria Bueno in 1968.


The world number 12 will face defending champion Iga Swiatek from Poland in the semi-finals. Wimbledon finalist Jabeur has to wait for her first triumph at a Grand Slam due to the defeat.
