The top favorite: Kathinka Von Deichmann © Alex Runggaldier

On Thursday the quarter-finals in singles and the semi-finals in doubles took place at the ITF tournament in Wolkenstein. A rare event occurred.

The day began with the news of the withdrawal of the Avdeeva/De Vroome pair due to a muscle injury the Russian suffered the day before in the match against Anastasia Abbagnato. This task brought the Weckerle/Marinkovic duo straight into the final.

The quarterfinals in the singles started with the match between the Sicilian Abbagnato and the Polish Martyna Kubka. The latter showed her tactical intelligence and took advantage of the Italian player's far from perfect condition to win 6-1 6-3.

The performance of Liechtenstein's Kathinka Von Deichmann was overwhelming, as she outclassed Germany's Carolina Kuhl 6-0 6-0 and showed everyone who is now the top favorite for overall victory. The other two individual games, however, were hard fought. The Latvian Kamilla Bartone won against the Italian Arianna Zucchini, the Czech Julie Struplova prevailed against the Englishwoman Amarni Banks. Two exciting semi-finals are scheduled for Friday from 14 p.m.

The double final will be contested by the seeded team Kubka/Gimbrere, which defeated the opposing duo Morvayova/Lovric in just over an hour and will not face Weckerle/Marinkovic for the title until 17.30 p.m. on Friday.
