Karin Knapp wins $50.000 tournament in Mestre

Karin Knapp achieved the fifth tournament victory of her professional career in Mestre. In total, she has been in a final 18 times so far - most recently six days ago at the $10.000 tournament in Bagnatica, when she was defeated by Italian Maria-Elena Camerin 6:7 (4), 4:6.

After the Pusterian made it into the final round almost effortlessly over the course of the week, she didn't show any weakness in the all-important match against Estrella Cabeza-Candela on Saturday. With her usual power tennis, she quickly brought her rival to her knees 6-1 in the first set. The Spaniard then came back impressively: aided by Knapp's faulty serve game, she quickly pulled away 3-1 in the second set. Although the South Tyrolean player managed to draw a point, Cabeza-Candela didn't let the set win be shaken and made it 6:3. Anyone who expected an exciting and nerve-wracking third set was disappointed, because Knapp didn't take any risks right from the start and didn't give her opponent the slightest chance. The final result of 6:1 was correspondingly clear. The tournament victory and thus another highlight in the career of the former number 35 in the world rankings (currently WTA number 129) was perfect.
