After a furious race to catch up: Sinner's final opponent has been determined

Jannik Sinner is facing the biggest match of his career: On Sunday he will contest the final of the Australian Open. Now it is clear who the opponent is.

Jannik Sinner versus Daniil Medvedev – that’s the name of the final pairing at this year’s Australian Open. After the sexton against Novak Djokovic had delivered his big semi-final gala, The Russian followed suit a little later in the match against Alexander Zverev and is the second finalist.

The way Medvedev reached the final shows great class. The 2021 US Open winner was already 0-2 sets behind against Zverev, but he didn't give up and was able to turn the match around: 5:7, 3:6, 7:6 (4), 7:6 (5), 6:3 was the final result. The fight between the two tennis stars lasted almost four and a half hours. This means they will meet in the final on Sunday (from 9.30 a.m. CET / SportNews-Live ticker) the number 3 in the world (Medvedev) to number 4 (Sinner).

Sinner knows how to crack Medvedev

The two have already played against each other nine times. In the balance sheet, the Russian is ahead with a 6-3 win, but recent developments speak in favor of the South Tyrolean. After Sinner had lost all of the first six encounters, he was able to win the most recent three matches. In Beijing and Vienna, the 22-year-old was crowned tournament winner against Medvedev in the final, and at the ATP finals, Sinner made it to the final thanks to his semi-final triumph over the Russian.
