“I will always carry the tournament in my heart”

Jannik Sinner accepted the trophy for winning the Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto calmly, without much emotion, almost coolly. It was clear: the Sesto native must be boiling inside. After all, he had just achieved the most important victory of his young career.

The confetti was already on the ground, the stadium was almost empty and the official ceremony had long since ended. Now the hour had come for the autograph hunters who wanted to go to just one man: Jannik Sinner. The 21-year-old patiently signed the merchandise before an emotional scene occurred: a little boy was overcome by his emotions and burst into tears in front of his idol. The South Tyrolean then gave him a hug that made all his worries disappear. However, the fact that Sinner now has great appeal beyond national borders is nothing new. What's new is that the ever-popular Sextner is now available long-awaited Masters 1000 title has in his CV. It was just a matter of time.

“The title means a lot to me,” said Sinner after the match: “Sharing this moment with the people who follow me every step of the way is very special – even if my team isn’t all there.” Coach Simone Vagnozzi and athletic trainer Umberto Ferrara were missing in Toronto. “Such results show that our daily work is bearing fruit. And motivates us to train even harder.” Sinner felt pressure throughout the tournament, but was happy with how he handled it. Probably because all the favorites had been eliminated from the tournament and everyone expected him to win the title. “I chose the right approach, played point by point and treated every opponent with the right amount of respect,” says Sinner, revealing his secret to success.

We started the tournament as doubles partners and now we are here in the final.” Sinner, who had never won a match in Toronto before the tournament began, said last but not least: “I will always carry the tournament in my heart.” The South Tyrolean will celebrate this historic victory appropriately, but the next big tournament begins on Wednesday.
