WTA Berlin: Kvitova and Vekic in the final

The finalists at the WTA tournament in Berlin, which is an important preparation tournament for the classic Wimbledon, have been determined. Donna Vekic and Petra Kvitova are in the final of the grass tournament.

In the semi-finals on Saturday, Croatian Vekic won 6:4, 7:6 (10:8) against Maria Sakkari from Greece. The two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic then won 6:3, 6:4 against the Russian Jekaterina Alexandrowa. The final of the WTA tournament will take place on Sunday (15.30:XNUMX p.m.) in the Steffi Graf Stadium.

Vekic, who is currently 23rd in the world rankings and 15 places lower than her opponent, celebrated after 2:16 hours in the tiebreak. The 26-year-old had previously missed three match points. Kvitova got through faster. After a convincing performance, the world number nine converted her second match point after 1:19 hours. She didn't have to give up a service game against Alexandrova.

For both finalists, the victories to reach the final were the second success of the day. By midday both had already won their quarterfinals. The quarter-finals were actually supposed to have been played on Friday. However, continuous rain prevented the entire game from taking place and led to the game being postponed to Saturday. The tournament at the LTTC Rot-Weiß facility, worth 850 US dollars (around 000 euros), also serves as preparation for Wimbledon.
