Medal: South Tyrolean celebrates at the Italian Championships

The Italian Canoeing Championships took place in Mezzana on Friday. There was also a medal for a South Tyrolean.

Martin Unterthurner (24) from SC Meran/Raika-Torggler was able to repeat his success from last year at the Italian Canoe Championships in the classic whitewater regatta today. Last year in the general class kayak single scull regatta he only had to beat Andrea Bernardi by 8 seconds and secured the silver medal. Today the Merano native was able to once again have the silver medal hanging around his neck at the Italian Regatta Championships on the Noce in Mezzana on the Sulzberg.

This time, after 3,5 kilometers in 12.50,45:3 minutes, Unterthurner was only 12.47,69 seconds behind the world-class whitewater paddler, Andrea Bernardi from CUS Pavia (12.53,14:2). Nicolò Razeto came third in XNUMX:XNUMX minutes. “I was able to defend my second place from last year. There were difficult conditions. I had a great run. My coach Hansjörg Mayr prepared me extremely well,” said Martin Unterturner happily. “It is confirmation for me that I am training optimally for the Dolomitenmann in Lienz,” believes Unterthurner.

Markus Hager is the only SCM canoeist to take part in the Italian whitewater sprint championships in the kayak single sculls on Sunday. Some slalom canoeists from SC Meran/Raika-Torggler will be starting tomorrow and Sunday at the ECA Cup in Solkan/Neugörz (Slovenia).
