World Cup: Cagnotto-Dallapè misses medal and Olympic qualification

After placing seventh in the qualification in the morning, the two “Azzurre” were able to improve in the final in the evening, but in the end they were still denied a place on the podium. As in the qualifying, Cagnotto-Dallapè were still on course for the podium in the final after the first two jumps - a reverse dive and an Auerbach dive.

However, after the third jump - a two-and-a-half somersault forward with a twist dive - they fell back to sixth place. With the final two and a half dolphin somersault they were able to improve to fifth place. In total, the Italian duo recorded 302.43 points, 21,66 points more than in the qualification in the morning.

The favored Chinese Tingmao Shi and Minxia Wu secured victory ahead of the Canadians Jennifer Abel/Pamela Ware and the Australians Samantha Mills/Esther Qin.

Verzotto/Batki sixth in the mixed synchronized diving from the tower

Maicol Verzotto, another South Tyrolean, was in action at the World Cup in Kazan on Saturday. The man from Bolzano tackled the mixed synchronized jumping from the tower together with Noemi Batki and, after a mistake in the last series, finished in sixth place with 299.28 points. Before the last jump, the two “Azzurri” were in second place and therefore on course for a medal.

“I knew we could have had a say in the medal awarding. Unfortunately we made a mistake on the last jump. “I have recovered well from my wrist injury, so I believe that I will take part in all the competitions for which I am registered,” Verzotto is quoted as saying on the website of the Italian Swimming Federation FIN.

The Chinese Yaije Si/Xihaou Tai took the title ahead of the Canadians Meaghan Benfeito/Vincent Riendeau and the Australians Domonic Bedggod/Melissa Wu.
