Admittedly, I was forewarned. “Don’t expect a winter landscape,” Italy’s biathlon racing director Klaus Höllrigl said last week when I visited the training camp in snow-white Antholz. “In Nove Mesto we have been walking in the green for years.” I kept reminding myself of these sentences as I drove along the country roads in the Moravian hills, in the southeast of the Czech Republic.
