The biathlon dates for 2013/14 have been set

Under the leadership of IBU President Anders Besseberg and Secretary General Nicole Resch, the organizers of the last years and the next winter and summer events met to talk about innovations, exchange experiences and visit the sports facilities for the Olympic Games in Sochi. There were also three delegations from South Tyrol, namely those from the World Cup organizers in Antholz, as well as the IBU Cup organizers from Martell and Ridnaun.

The World Cup will be in Antholz from January 16th to 19th

The World Cup location Antholz was represented in Sochi by OC boss Gottlieb Taschler, as well as Erika Pallhuber, Lorenz Leitgeb, Rudi Wieser and Martin Rainer. The biathlon stars will stop at the foot of Hochgall from January 16th to 19th, 2014. The competition program remains identical to that of 2013, meaning that the races will start on Thursday with the women's sprint. The men's sprint follows on Friday, before the pursuit races (Saturday) and the relay competitions (Sunday) take place at the weekend. From July 1st, the World Cup organizers in the Antholz Valley will be providing fans with a new electronic ticket system with which tickets can be purchased online and printed out at home.

Martell and Ridnaun host IBU Cup

The organizers of the two “South Tyrolean” IBU Cup stages are also constantly striving for innovations. In the Ridnaun Valley, for example, planning for the biathlon races from January 8th to 12th is already in full swing. Manuel Volgger, Andreas Kruselburger and Walter Hochrainer, who came especially to the event, described this to the delegates in Sochi. Martin Stricker from the organizing committee in Martelltal was present at the 2014 Olympic venue. His team is preparing for the final stop of the IBU Cup from March 12th to 16th.

The organizers of IBU Cups, World Cups and World or European Championships meet every two years to be comprehensively informed about new developments within the IBU and to exchange experiences from recent years. A total of 13 World Cup and World Championship organizers and 12 organizers of IBU Cups, European Championships and Summer World Championships were on site in Sochi. There were also several IBU service providers, representatives from national associations and employees of the office. They all discussed possible developments and improvements in a lively manner.
