Tommaso Giacomel (left) has a good laugh: In Canmore he made it to the podium for the second time this season. Next to him is the winner Johannes Thingnes Bø (middle) and his brother Tarjei Bø.

Giacomel on fire! Podium finish at Norwegian one-man show

The men's sprint in Canmore was on the program on Friday. It was already clear beforehand that the fight for the crystal ball would be purely Norwegian. While Johannes Thingnes Bø once again demonstrated his power, Tommaso Giacomel had a great day and finished on the podium.

The men's final sprint of the season took place in Canmore in sunshine. Many eyes were on the two Bø brothers. And one of them put on a really big show: Johannes Thingnes Bø. The exceptional athlete clearly took victory ahead of the Azzurro Tommasco Giacomel and the Norwegian Tarjei Bø.

Simply brilliant, this Giacomel! The Trentino native finally proved again that he is a top athlete and can have a say at the front. He stayed cool on the shooting mats and only missed once, but on the cross-country ski run the Azzurro showed an extremely strong performance and therefore took his third second place overall in the individual. He had already finished second in the sprint in Ruhpolding this season. By the way: Giacomel's anger over the one shooting mistake soon disappeared, at the latest when the winner of the day crossed the finish line.

The Norwegian monster athlete

When Johannes Thingnes Bø crossed the finish line, most of the spectators in the Canadian winter resort of Canmore had their mouths wide open. The big monitor showed a lead of 1.02,7:XNUMX minutes (!) over Tommaso Giacomel. The Norwegian dominated the sprint across the board and showed once again that he is currently the best athlete in the world.

He also achieved something incredible: Bø was the first winner since the distant year of 2004 to cross the finish line in a sprint with a lead of over a minute. What else can you say other than: Hats off!

“Luki” Hofer very strong

Two South Tyroleans were also there, Lukas Hofer (Montal) and Patrick Braunhofer (Ridnaun). Hofer showed a very strong performance. He proved once again how strong he is on the trails. Although he made three shooting errors, he finished 13th thanks to an extremely strong running performance and thus ended up in the top 20.

Braunhofer, on the other hand, started the race with a fairly high starting number (91 out of 101). He only made one mistake there, but he still ended up just outside the points in 53rd place.

Another Azzurro also showed a very strong performance: Elia Zeni. The 23-year-old from Trentino didn't make a single mistake in the two shootings and ultimately achieved his best career result to date with 24th place. Overall, he has already made it into the top 30 three times this season.

The Biathlon World Cup continues on Saturday, when the women's (18.10:22.10 p.m.) and men's (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.) pursuits take place. In the SportNews-Live ticker lets you get up close and personal.
