In the absence of many top stars, the relay offered significantly more excitement than usual. The teams were close together for a long time. In the end, the race ended as always: Norway celebrated a victory even without Johannes Thingnes Bø, Tarjei Bø and Sturla Holm Lægreid. Led by final runner Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen, the Scandinavians relegated the French, who were also weakened, to second place. Thanks to a fantastic final lap, Benedikt Doll gave Germany third place, while Italy had to make do with eighth place.

From the Azzurri's point of view, the season couldn't have started better: Daniele Cappellari, who has mainly appeared in the IBU Cup this season, fired all ten cartridges from his magazine at a horrendous rate - without missing a single shot. In addition, the 25-year-old outgrew himself on the cross-country ski trail, clung to the heels of his competitors and was only five seconds behind at the top.

An up and down Didier Bionaz was unable to imitate his teammate's strong shooting performances. The 22-year-old made up time on the course, but missed the target a total of three times. Because his shooting speed wasn't outstanding either, he lost around 30 seconds. With this gap he sent Patrick Braunhofer onto the track. The man from Ridnaun ran courageously in the first round and cleared all the targets in the prone shooting. However, he paid tribute to the high pace in the second lap. He lost time on the cross-country ski trail, missed twice and was pushed back to 8th place on the final lap.

Final runner Tommaso Giacomel still gave everything he had. Inspired by his first podium finish, the youngster risked everything. At the last shooting he actually still had a chance of getting close to the top teams. However, he made five errors, which meant he had to go into the penalty loop twice.

The Italian biathlon relay team did well on Saturday in Östersund (Sweden). It was almost enough for a top position, but Tommaso Giacomel of all people showed nerves at the crucial moment.
