Lisa Vittozzi's chances of winning the overall World Cup

Will Lisa Vittozzi become the second overall World Cup winner from Italy after Dorothea Wierer? That question will be answered this week at the Biathlon World Cup finals in Canmore. Here you can find all the details about the initial situation.

Everything is possible and nothing is fixed: This is how you can describe the situation before the big finale in the fight for the big crystal ball for women. Lisa Vittozzi's gap to the currently leading Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (964) is 73 points. Catching up on this in the last three individual races of the season is difficult, but by no means impossible.

Tandrevold showed at the World Championships and last Sunday that she is always good for mistakes - especially when it comes to standing shooting. If Vittozzi were to finish on the podium three times in Canada, the Norwegian would also have to put in strong performances to defend her lead. There are 90 points for a win, 75 for second place and 60 points for third place. A tenth place, however, would only bring in 31 points.

Even a three- or four-way fight?

You can then deal with this calculation in more detail after the sprint on Thursday (17.40:10 p.m./CET). However, the race for the big ball could also become a three- or four-way battle. Justine Braisaz-Bouchet only has 100 points less than Vittozzi. Julia Simon's gap to Tandrevold is already over XNUMX points. But the second Frenchwoman still has outside chances.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, Hannah Auchentaller and Rebecca Passler are among the women in Canmore. In the men's field, Patrick Braunhofer and the in-form Lukas Hofer will be at the start. It starts on Thursday with the women's sprint. It is quite possible that the overall World Cup will not be decided until Sunday.
