Oberhof is upside down: Doll wins the sprint

Benedikt Doll won the ten kilometer sprint at the start of his home World Cup in Oberhof and continued the German biathletes' impressive series of successes with his sixth World Cup victory.

The 33-year-old only missed the last of his ten shots on Friday and was 1,8 seconds ahead of the Norwegian Sturla Holm Lægreid, who also had to go into the penalty loop, for his second success of the season. came third in difficult track conditions his teammate Endre Strømsheim (1 error/+5,4 seconds).

The team of the new national coach Uros Velepec (a Slovenian) already has four victories and three more podium places to their name this winter and is heading into the new year with further increased self-confidence. This year the Germans are a power, especially in terms of running - in terms of material too.

Azzurri outside the top ten

Things didn't go completely as planned for the Azzurri in the sprint, but Didier Bionaz, Lukas Hofer and Tommaso Giacomel are still within striking distance for the pursuit on Saturday. Bionaz finished best in 18th place. Hofer wasn't in top running shape because he was sick around Christmas. However, the Pusterer was strong at the shooting range in difficult conditions (only one mistake) and ended up in 21st place. Behind him was Giacomel (25th), who missed too much at the shooting range (3 mistakes).
