Great dismay: Biathlon talent is dead

In recent weeks, the case of a missing biathlon talent has made many headlines. Now there is sad news.

The Norwegian biathlon talent Eivind Sporaland is dead. The local police confirmed this to the newspaper Gudbrandsdølen Dagningen. “It is difficult news, but for the next of kin and us it is a relief that he has been found,” said investigation leader Ragnhild Ouren.

At the end of March, Sporaland disappeared without a trace from his home in Lillehammer. Since then, there has been an intensive search for the 22-year-old. The police assumed until the end that he was alive. Then at the beginning of the week near Balbergkampen (a hiking area near Lillehammer, editor's note) the body of a young man was found. The subsequent autopsy revealed that it was Sporaland.

Police suspect accident

“The report shows that he had fractures that could be explained by a fall from a height,” says investigator Ouren. The police assume that the biathlon talent sustained his fatal injuries in an accident; foul play has been ruled out.
