Highlight of natural track tobogganing: World Cup and European Championships in Jaufental

The 2023/2024 season for natural track tobogganing is heading towards its climax: From February 2nd to 4th, a double event is on the program in Jaufental, with the World Cup in natural track tobogganing and the 30th European Championships.

The 658 meter long Tonnerboden track remains the scene of the natural track tobogganing title fights. After the Junior European Championships in 2021 and the Junior World Championships in 2022, the European Championships in the general class are now on the program for the first time.

One thing is certain: there will be new European champions in at least three out of four categories in 2024. The last European Championships took place in Lasa in 2022, and of the defending champions only Evelin Lanthaler from Passier is at the start. Villandro's Alex Gruber has ended his career, the doubles player Ivan Lazarev/Pavel Porshnev (RUS) is not eligible to compete due to international sanctions following the Russian attack on Ukraine, and the Azzurri Lanthaler/Gruber prevailed in the team competition.

With three gold medals (Nowouralsk 2010, St. Sebastian 2012, Umhausen 2014) Patrick Pigneter (Völs) leads the all-time best list. The 36-year-old is still one of the favorites, even if he has had to wait for a win at a major event since winning the 2015 World Cup.

“We are looking forward to the title fights, the entire organizational team and many volunteers are passionate about it. It is important to us that both the World Cup and the European Championships here in Jaufental are an unforgettable sports festival. We don’t want to leave anything to chance,” emphasizes OK boss Walter Volgger.

There are still three World Cups left to compete in this season, and after four races, Lanthaler leads the women's single-seater with 400 points ahead of Riccarda Ruetz (AUT/315) and Lisa Walch (GER/230). In the men's single-seater, Pigneter is at the top with 385 points, ahead of Florian Clara (ITA/300) and Daniel Gruber (ITA/265). In the doubles, Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher (ITA) lead the overall standings with 370 points, ahead of Maximilian Pichler/Nico Edlinger (AUT/340) and Peter Neupauer/Dominik Neupauer (SVK/245).
