Off to the hall! Unusual travel destination for ski aces

Not the Stelvio Pass, not the glaciers in Cervinia, Saas-Fee or Ushuhaia - no, the best slalom skiers and giant slalom skiers in Italy will be training in the unfamiliar flatland for the next few days.

The Azzurri's destination is called Snow Valley. But contrary to what the name suggests, it is not a snow-covered mountain valley, but an indoor ski resort in Belgium. It is located in Peer in the north-east of the Flanders region and is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe.

In the covered winter sports hall there is a freestyle park, shops, restaurants and several ski slopes with artificial snow. The largest is 350 meters long and 35 meters wide and serves as a training track for the Italian national team. And this national team of technicians includes the five South Tyroleans Alex Vinatzer, Simon Maurberger, Tobias Kastlunger, Hannes Zingerle and Matteo Canins as well as Tommaso Sala, Stefano Gross, Giuliano Razzoli, Corrado Barbera, Filippo Della Vite, Luca De Aliprandini and Giovanni Borsotti.

From Monday to Thursday the twelve technicians will complete their preparation for the season in Belgium. They are accompanied by the trainers Peter Fill and Simone Deldio, as well as their assistants Luis Kuppelwieser, Stefano Costazza, Fabio Bianco Dolino, Stella Francescato, Luca Vuerich, Riccardo Coriani, Davide Marchetti, Ivan Imberti, Adam Peraudo and Maurizio Urbani.
