“It went stupid”: Ex-ski star ends up in hospital

From the ski slopes to the operating room: This is the fate that befell a former ski world champion.

The serious injury and the resulting end to the season for Petra Vlhova has saddened the ski world. But as it now turns out, that's just the tip of the iceberg. On Saturday, several injury dramas occurred at the World Cup race in Jasna.

The most prominent name is Nicole Hosp. The Austrian is one of the ski icons in her homeland, she has won numerous Olympic and World Cup medals and also won the overall World Cup once. Hosp now works as a camerawoman for ORF - and the 40-year-old has now been seriously injured in this role.

Fatal tracking shot

During the tracking shot before the Jasna race on Saturday, Hosp fell and injured his knee. The pain was so severe that the 2007 giant slalom world champion did not comment on the race as planned, but instead traveled back to her home in North Tyrol. The diagnosis came on Sunday: The meniscus was injured and the cruciate ligament may have also suffered damage. This will become apparent after surgery. “It just turned out stupidly,” Hosp told the newspaper Tyrolean daily newspaper.

Hosp and Vlhova weren't the only ones caught. The two French players Doriane Escane and Carmen Haro are also injured and there are fears that they will be out for a long time.
