Germany instead of Canada: This ski lady is causing a stir

At the beginning of 2019, a young Canadian woman made people sit up and take notice in the ski scene. We're talking about Roni Remme: As if out of nowhere, the then 23-year-old took second place in the Crans Montana alpine station wagon and thus achieved her first World Cup podium. A few days earlier, she narrowly missed out on the big coup at the World Ski Championships in Åre: the all-rounder also came 2th in the combination and was close to a medal, but that didn't happen.

It seemed like Remme had made her breakthrough that season. But in the years that followed, things got in the way. The Canadian was no longer able to build on her best winter to date; nothing went right for the North American, especially in the last two seasons. A 17th place in the Zagreb slalom was her best result. The result: Roni Remme no longer appeared in the Canadian national team squad in the summer. But that probably didn't matter to her, because the 26-year-old had a new plan in her pocket. In the future she will compete for the German ski team. "Here we go!" Roni Remme Remme, who has competed in two Olympic Games, made the announcement on social media on Wednesday. “I will represent Germany next season,” says the all-rounder, whose grandmother comes from Germany. “I am honored and very excited about this opportunity that I am given. A big thank you also to the team who welcomed me so well and made this big change a little less scary.” The skier wrote these lines in English, but concluded her posting with a typically German expression: “Let’s go!”

Remme, who is mainly active in the downhill, super-G and slalom disciplines, also has parting words ready for her Canadian fans: “I loved every minute that I rode for the Canadian team. I will never forget these years. A huge thank you for the support.” The German ski team will have a very interesting new addition next season.
