Ski farewell: Hirscher's youth rival quits

The 31-year-old has been a familiar face in the Ski World Cup. The proven slalom specialist took part in 84 races, never achieving a podium finish, but achieving twelve top 10 results. The Norwegian celebrated his greatest success at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang when he won the bronze medal with the team. Nordbotten was far away from these results last season. Although he won a European Cup slalom in Oberjoch, he only collected World Cup points once - and that was in Alta Badia, in the first race of the year.

Because of this, the man from Kolbotn is now drawing a conclusion: “Not many have achieved what I have achieved,” says a satisfied Nordbotten to Norwegian radio: “I think it is time to draw a conclusion, even if it is unbelievable is difficult. I thought about it for a long time and I think it makes sense,” explains Nordbotten, whose story is a special one. As good as Hirscher The Olympic medalist was one of the most talented athletes in his childhood. “I was on par with Marcel Hirscher,” claims Nordbotten, who “knew the Austrian of the same age “well and had a close relationship with him.”

While Hirscher, who has since resigned, quickly achieved outstanding results, Nordbotten's development stalled.
