Ski World Cup: “It would be a success for all of South Tyrol”

The Ski World Cup will be in Val Gardena in exactly two weeks. There will be three races on the Saslong again this year. But the organizers are already looking towards the future.

For the second time in a row, two downhill runs and a Super-G will take place in Val Gardena. The first descent on Thursday will take place instead of the one in Zermatt-Cervinia. “This is proof that we have enough snow. This also speaks for the organization. We are very close to the FIS. She sees us as a reliable partner. With a view to our candidacy for the 2029 World Cup, this is another important step,” explained race director Rainer Senoner at the presentation of the Val Gardena World Cup in the Noisteria restaurant in Bozen Süd.

Senoner and his team are fighting like lions to bring the 2029 World Cup to the Valley of the Woodcarvers. “I have done more kilometers this year than I have in a long time and will continue to do so until June 4th,” said Senoner. On that date, a decision will be made in Reykjavík (Iceland) as to who will host the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2029. The other applicants are Narvik (Norway) and Soldeu (Andorra).

“It would not only be a huge success for Val Gardena, but also for South Tyrol and all of Italy.” Rainer Senoner about the 2029 World Ski Championships

Back in 1970, Val Gardena had already hosted a World Ski Championships. Will this also be the case in a good five years? “I am confident, but we will have to worry until the last moment. We are dealing with two strong competitors. In any case, it would be a huge success not only for Val Gardena, but also for South Tyrol and all of Italy. With our partners and sponsors, we are all pulling in the same direction. That makes me happy,” explained Senoner.
