Overview: These stars are missing from the ski circus

There have been many high-profile injury victims in the ski circus in recent weeks. Here is an overview of the long list.

Valerie Grenier: The Canadian tore a cruciate ligament and a partial tear of her inner ligament in the Super-G in Cortina on January 28th. She also broke her upper arm and needed surgery on her shoulder.

Mikaela Shiffrin: The US star flies off the course in the first Cortina descent on January 26th and lands in the safety net. The overall World Cup leader got off lightly with an inner knee ligament injury, but has to sit out for now.

Corinne Suter and Michelle Gisin: For the Swiss team, Cortina becomes a hospital. Suter tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee when landing on the first Cortina descent. The hospital bed next to the downhill Olympic champion does not remain empty: the next day, Suter's teammate Joana Hählen's season ends with the same injury. Michelle Gisin is also temporarily out after a bruised shoe edge.

Petra Vlhova: The Slovakian tore a cruciate ligament and a torn medial ligament in her right knee in the giant slalom in Jasna - of all places in her home country - on January 20th. The race in the Slalom World Cup has now been decided, and Mikaela Shiffrin also loses her closest competitor in the overall World Cup.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde: The Norwegian downhill star crashes into the barrier at the finish S in Wengen with serious consequences. He suffers deep cuts on his lower leg and a dislocated shoulder. The season ended on January 12th, operations in Bern and Innsbruck will follow.

Alexis Pinturault: One day before Kilde, Pinturault also needs the rescue helicopter in Wengen. The Frenchman tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee six days after the birth of his first child.

Florian Schieder: South Tyrol's Kitzbühel hero is also currently out. Florian Schieder has a meniscus and cartilage damage in his right knee. For the rest of the season, the Castelrotto native will have to slow down and will only compete in individual races. The knee operation will take place after the season.

Marco Schwarz: The premiere at the Stelvio in Bormio will be Schwarz's undoing on December 28, 2023. In a fall, he suffered a torn cruciate ligament and tear of the medial meniscus as well as cartilage damage in his right knee. The Carinthian previously nurtured the hope of being the first Austrian since Marcel Hirscher to win the big crystal ball in 2019. Marco Odermatt then has a free ride.

Wendy Holdener: The technology specialist from Switzerland was injured during training in Pozza di Fassa on December 12, 2023 and required surgery on her ankle. The foot must be immobilized for around two months. A return in the current season is questionable.

Nina Ortlieb: The vice world champion in downhill is again set back by a serious injury. The Vorarlberg native suffered a fractured tibia and fibula in her right leg while driving in for the Super-G in St. Moritz on December 8th. Her failure hits the Austrian speed team hard.
