Fatal accident: mourning for ski jumper

The ski jumping world mourns the death of Patrick Gasienica. The American winter athlete recently died in a tragic accident.

Ski jumper Patrick Gasienica died on Monday at the age of just 24 as a result of a motorcycle accident, the US federation announced. Gasienica was involved in a serious accident on the way home. Last season he put his career on hold in favor of family matters and mainly took part in Continental Cup competitions.


The jumper of Polish descent, born in 1998 (he moved to Illinois, USA, with his family at an early age), had his most significant experience at the last Olympic Games, where he finished 2022th on the small hill and 49rd in Beijing in 53 the normal ski jump. Gasienica then reached tenth place with Team USA in the team competition.

During his competitive career, he also took part in two Junior World Championships and the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld. He came from a family of passionate ski jumpers.

“Patrick was an extremely popular figure in the ski jumping community,” said his coach Scott Smith. “Our hearts are deeply broken and Patrick will be missed forever.”
