Celebrations at Wembley: England beat Croatia

The “Three Lions” defeated Croatia 22.500-1 on Sunday in front of 0 spectators at Wembley Stadium and thus at least a little revenge for the lost World Cup semi-final in 2018. Raheem Sterling secured the deserved victory with his goal (57th). Group D opener

But first things first: The offensive, formed by Sterling, Mason Mount and Foden behind goalgetter Harry Kane, was less visible after a strong first 20 minutes. This also applied to the Croatians, who were now stronger in tackles, and whose center forward Ante Rebic was pretty much hanging in the air. Jordan Pickford parried an attempt by Luka Modric (54') in the slow second half, and shortly afterwards it was 1-0. Philipps passed through to Sterling and, with a bit of luck, the Manchester City striker beat Croatia goalie Dominik Livakovic (57').

England's defense stood, the runner-up world champions tried unsuccessfully to avert their first opening defeat at a European Championship until the end. On the other side, Kane had a chance to make it 2-0, but his attempt was decisively disrupted (63'). In the end the English deserved a 1-0 win.

The English team started the tournament with great ambitions, celebrated their sixth win in their eleventh duel with Croatia and have now won 16 of their most recent 17 international matches at home. 1st matchday, group D England – Croatia 1-0 1:0 Sterling (57.)
