Folie must bow to the invincible

Conegliano remains the measure of all things in Italy's volleyball scene. The reigning Serie A champions brought Raphaela Folie's Volley Milano to their knees in a thrilling final of the Coppa Italia Vero in Trieste on Sunday.

Conegliano was the clear favorite in the final. Not least because coach Davide Santarelli's team won all four duels of the season against Milano. At the PalaTrieste, Folie & Co. showed what they were made of and demanded everything from Conegliano. Still, it wasn't enough to win. Led by Marina Lubian and Sara Fahr, the favorite won 3:2 (25:21, 22:25, 25:19, 19:25 and 15:11). It was the 14th national title win (!) in a row.

The match was all about the duel between possibly the best players on the planet, Isabelle Haak and Paola Egonu. The Italian clearly won this duel with 35 points (35 points), but she also made fatal mistakes in the tiebreak. Folie contributed seven points. In the semifinals against Scandicci she scored 17 more times.
