He came with a quiet step, politely shook hands with each of the two dozen or so media representatives and the club employees present, spoke quietly, carefully considered words, then personally said goodbye to each one and disappeared into the FCS Center office complex. Lamberto Zauli was visibly concerned with restraint and modesty during his first public appearance at his new workplace.

However, the 50-year-old gave clear, unambiguous answers to questions about his past, his view of football and his goals with FC Südtirol. Lamberto Zauli about... ...his time as a Serie A player: “I have experienced a lot in football and have been able to absorb a lot at several positions and under countless coaches. I live football! I want to convey that to my players too.”

...his commitment to Juventus: “I am endlessly grateful to have been able to work for such a big club. The organization, all the opportunities and especially the selection of talented players was outstanding. I already have one or two interesting names on the list. I know that our sports director Paolo Bravo has excellent contacts, maybe he will be able to bring one of these young Juventus players to South Tyrol.”

...his first days in the FCS Center: “I was used to the highest standards from Juventus, but the infrastructure here at FC Südtirol is also exceptional. When it comes to training centers and stadiums, Italy lags far behind other countries, and the FCS is a great exception. Being able to draw on such events can be fundamental to sporting success – I know that from my own experience.” “I don’t have a personal project.” FCS coach Lamberto Zauli ...his one-year contract: “We made a good, honest agreement. I don't think the running time is exceptional. Football is a fast-moving world, especially the coaching business. That's why I say honestly: I don't have a personal project. My project is always the next day, that’s the next training session, the next game.”

...his lack of Serie B experience: “Sure, I’m a total beginner when it comes to this. I can only sincerely thank Bravo and FC Südtirol for giving me this opportunity. I will try to gain the trust of the players as quickly as possible and then prove to the club that I am up to this challenge. One thing is certain: it won’t be an easy year, because due to the well-known participants, it’s not a second league, but rather a kind of Serie A2.”

...old acquaintances: “I know Bravo from our time together at Santarcangelo. I'm glad he remembered me and brought me here. I have also already worked with central defender Marco Curto. Even back then, in Empoli's youth, he was an outstanding player whose potential is far from being exhausted in my opinion.

...his game system: “I prefer playing with a back four in defense and, depending on the situation, two or three midfielders in front of them. However, I don't come here and force my game on the team. Rather, I will try to use and refine what is available, i.e. everything that is already in place.”

...player purchases: “When I signed my contract, I already knew and appreciated the FCS world from the outside. I immediately understood what values count here. This is also an absolute requirement for players to get involved. You have to know the club and fit in with it. I will be having a lot of discussions with Bravo about this in the next few days, and we have already agreed that we want to upgrade the broad team squad with around ten new players.”

...possible departures: “I take my hat off to every single player on the championship team, they did a great job. Many of them deserve the chance to play in Serie B. Now it's up to us to evaluate in which positions we still need to bring quality on board and who we will give up to do so. There’s a lot of work waiting for us.”
