“Cuba” ends

Former Polish national team captain and BVB and Fiorentina star Jakub Blaszczykowski declared his active career as a footballer over on Thursday.

The 37-year-old, number two in the Polish rankings behind Robert Lewandowski (109) with 142 international matches, most recently played in the Polish second division for Wisla Krakow.

“Kuba” won the German championship twice with Dortmund and reached the Champions League final in 2013. From 2007 to 2016 he played for BVB and later also played for Fiorentina in Serie A.

Blaszczykowski was dismissed from the national team last June in the friendly against Germany.
