The South Tyrolean ladies storm into the Europeada final

While the South Tyrolean men had to endure a bitter disappointment and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Europeada in the German-Danish border region, the women stormed furiously into the final.

It was a paradoxical scene that took place on Thursday evening in the 4.000-person village of Risum-Lindholm. When the South Tyrolean men’s quarter-final exit was sealed with the last penalty at 19.28 p.m., The South Tyrolean ladies were already standing at the entrance to the pitch, ready to play their semi-final. While the men sank into the valley of tears and licked their deep wounds in the changing room, the women just shot one goal after the other against a wall and a few meters further away.

Captain Manuela Lardstätter & Co. moved into the final with a furious 5:1 victory over the Carinthian Slovenes. On Saturday from 11 a.m. Denise Ferraris' "Gitschn" will fight against North Friesland in Flensburg for their second Europeada title. The North Friesians won their semi-final 2:0 against South Schleswig, the Danes in Germany.

Sonja Kiem converts the penalty to make it 1-1.

The South Tyrolean ladies proved once again on Thursday that they are a real team. After half an hour, Anna Katharina Peer & Co. fell behind 0:1 when a free kick from Carinthian Lena Rautzer slipped into the South Tyrolean goal (32').

Sonja Kiem turns the match

But the South Tyroleans, who had been dominating until then, did not let this bother them and turned the game around before the break. Especially because Sonja Kiem now turned up the heat. First she scored with a handball penalty (36th minute), then she scored with a header (43rd minute). Greta Oberhuber sealed the deal with a free kick goal before the break (45th minute).

The South Tyrolean ladies played great.

After the break, the South Tyroleans did not let up and continued to play for only one goal. The local players had two more reasons to celebrate. First, Hannah Bielak converted a free kick variation to make it 4:1 (60th minute), then Melanie Markart secured the final score with a rebound (65th minute).

Not only did the South Tyroleans advance to the final, they also took revenge on the Carinthian Slovenes: in 2022, “Team Koroska” inflicted a painful defeat on penalties on the home team “Gitschn” in the final.
