Revolution in football: future time penalties like in ice hockey?

The top football rules keepers want to test the introduction of time penalties. There are also possible innovations in referee protests.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) announced this on Tuesday after the meeting in London. In addition to the time penalties, similar to those in ice hockey, it should also be tested that in certain situations only the team captains are allowed to speak to the referees. This is already being done on the ice and in rugby.

Time penalties are already partially used in youth football and could also be adopted in amateur football in the future. It will also be discussed how a similar regulation can be tested at a higher level, i.e. in international football.

Exclusions of up to ten minutes are currently being discussed. These measures are intended to increase respect for the referees. This would give you another sanction option in addition to yellow and red cards.
