From Wednesday top ice hockey at the Dolomites Cup

The Neumarkt club EHC Young Goose has once again succeeded in attracting strong European teams to South Tyrol. Because the tournament and its framework have long since proven themselves, this year three foreign professional ice hockey teams will combine the Dolomites Cup in South Tyrol with a training camp. It starts with EHC Olten. The Swiss NLB club was the best team in this year's regular season, but was eliminated surprisingly early in the quarterfinals against La Chaux-de-Fonds in the playoffs. The “mice” from the canton of Solothurn are trained by former Italian-Canadian star Scott Beattie.

Tournament favorite HC Ambri Piotta comes from the top Swiss league. The Ticino team had their best season in eight years this year and easily qualified for the playoffs with seventh place in the regular season. The stars of the team are the ex-NHL players Alexandre Giroux and Maxim Noreau, while the strong locals Inti Pestoni and Daniel Steiner were also convincing.

Defending champion Augsburg Panthers back again

The Augsburg Panthers want to defend their title from last year. After many years, the traditional DEL club once again has a top scorer in its own ranks with Ivan Ciernik. The Slovakian former NHL player received particular support this year from Mike Connolly and Ryan Bayda. With the Augsburg Panthers, a concentrated load of NHL power is coming to the Dolomites Cup.

Stefan Mair comes with Schwenningen The Schwenninger Wild Wings are also taking part in the tournament for the first time. Last year's DEL newcomers were able to ignite great enthusiasm for ice hockey in Baden-Württemberg in their debut year. In terms of sport, the Wild Wings achieved a number of surprise victories, with the derby games against Adler Mannheim in particular causing a lot of emotion. The most successful scorer was Ryan Ramsay ahead of Danish national striker Morten Green. The cult club is coached by South Tyrolean Stefan Mair.

The Norwegian tournament participant, Lorenskog IK, also has a South Tyrol connection (=sponsor VOG comes from South Tyrol). The Norwegians had already taken part in the Dolomites Cup two years ago and made people sit up and take notice with their typical Scandinavian technical style of play. This year too, the Norwegians are combining their participation in the tournament with a training camp in Neumarkt. Lorenskog comes to Neumarkt with a mixture of strong Canadian players such as league top scorer Kenny Corupe and Wacey Rabbit as well as solid local national players such as Knut Henrik Spets and Mats Froshaug.

The Dolomites Cup begins on Wednesday, August 20th with the game Schwenninger Wild Wings against EHC Olten in Bruneck. The remaining games will all take place in the Würth Arena in Neumarkt. The finals will take place on Sunday, August 24th in Neumarkt.
