The Kloten Flyers win the anniversary edition of the DolomitenCup

The big final showdown completely lived up to the expectations of ice hockey fans. From the start it was a duel of equals, which offered numerous scoring opportunities in the first third - aided by a whole series of penalty minutes. Dennis Hollenstein immediately fired Kloten's first warning shot, followed a little later by Ingolstadt's answer from Benedikt Kohl. However, Stanley Cup winner Martin Gerber repeatedly stood in his and his teammates' way. He saved the five-time Swiss champions from falling behind several times before they took the reins towards the middle of the first third. In the 15th minute, the Flyers were rewarded: Tommy Santala set up Erik Gustafsson on the double power play, who pushed the puck between Marco Eisenhut's pads and into the goal. This was also the first break stand. In the second half of the game, Kloten stayed on the trigger, even though the DEL finalist initially didn't let anything go. Lukas Stoop, Hollenstein and Vincent Praplan all had their chances thwarted. Only when the Flyers had the majority did Eisenhut have to fall back again. This time it was Chad Kolarik who hit the mark with a powerful long-range shot. He ensured a reassuring two-goal lead, which did not waver even in the penalty kill. At this point, Ingolstadt found no way to lure the Confederates out of their reserve. On the contrary: Hollenstein even had the puck on his stick to make it 3-0, but failed to finish.

Martin Gerber defends everything The Flyers' negligent use of opportunities almost took revenge at the beginning of the final third when Jared Ross ran alone towards Gerber and was fouled by an opposing defender. The former Swiss national goalkeeper was able to defuse the resulting penalty. But this was a wake-up call for the Ingolstadt offensive, who now put everything into the balance and pushed vehemently for the next goal. However, significant scoring chances were still in short supply. Petr Taticek missed the two best opportunities. On the other hand, Kloten failed to close the sack early. However, the tournament victory was no longer in danger, especially since Ingolstadt was unable to score even in the last two minutes of the game without a goalkeeper on the ice. Kloten finally put his first triumph at the DolomitenCup aside.
