Throat slit: Ex-NHL crack dies during ice hockey game

The ice hockey world is shocked by tragic news. A horror accident has cost the life of a former NHL and DEL player. He was also a teammate of Thomas Di Pauli for a long time in his career.

Sadness and bewilderment – that is what prevails in the ice hockey world on Sunday. Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson of Great Britain has died. “The Nottingham Panthers are devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has died following a horrific accident during last night's game in Sheffield,” the Panthers said in a statement.

In the British Cup match, the striker was hit in the neck by an opponent's skate during a collision. As the Daily Mail reported, the skid slit Johnson's throat. As the injured player attempted to leave the ice, he collapsed and had to be resuscitated on the ice, according to media reports. His condition was critical when he was transported away, but on Sunday the Panthers announced that the 29-year-old had not made it.

He was a teammate of Thomas Di Pauli

The American from Minnesota has only been playing for Nottingham this season; last winter he played for the Augsburger Panther in the DEL. During his career, Johnson was also a teammate of Kalterer Thomas Di Pauli for several years. From 2017 to 2020 they were under contract with Pittsburgh, but mainly played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins farm team in the AHL. In the NHL, Johnson played 13 games.
