AHL: Wolves win the top game – Neumarkt strong

The final game of the Master Round between Rittner Buam and HC Pustertal was very even from the start. Ritten acted much more offensively than the guests from Bruneck in the first third, but after 20 minutes the score remained goalless. The “Wolves” took the lead in the middle third, Rabbit used Victor Schweitzer’s pass to make it 1-0. The Rittners had the right answer ready in the 31st minute. After a pass from Simon Kostner and captain Christian Borgatello, Alex Frei scored to make it 1-1. Afterwards, an exciting showdown developed, but no more goals were scored in the second half of the game. In the final third the HCP took the lead again. When Ploner was sitting in the cooler, it was Rabbit again who gave Ritten goalie Killeen the loss for the second time in the 48th minute. The game seemed decided until Ritten equalized 40 seconds before the end of the game. With two more players on the ice (Schweitzer was in the penalty box and goalie Killeen gave up his place for a sixth skater), it was Victor Ahlström who scored on a pass from Borgatello to make it 2-2 and turn the Arena Ritten upside down. Max Oberrauch kept a cool head in the penalty shootout.

HC Gröden and Bregenzerwald had an open exchange of blows in the Qualification Round A. The “Furie” were already leading 3-1, but then Straka and Wolf restored the stalemate. In the final third it was Eastman who put the Ladins on the road to victory against the bottom team in this group. Kostner closed the sack three and a half minutes before the end.

In the Qualification Round B, Neumarkt won the top game against league leaders Zeller Eisbären 4-2. The Unterlanders fell behind twice away from home, but showed morale and immediately equalized. Muzik gave the Wild Geese the lead for the first time with a shorthander in the final third, before Sullmann made the final score with an empty-net goal 72 seconds before the final siren. This means that HC Neumarkt, which had already prevailed in front of its own audience on Tuesday, is now only one point behind Zell am See in the ranking, but has also played one match less.

WSV Vipiteno remains on the Neumarktner’s heels. The Wild Horses had no trouble in their 5-0 win against EC KAC II. The Wipptalers laid the foundation for their later success in the starting third with a partial score of 3-0. This means that Sterzing can still get the playoff ticket they are aiming for on their own.
