EBEL: HCB Südtirol starts the playoffs on Friday

Let the playoffs begin. The fifth season of the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League begins this weekend. HCB Südtirol, who finished the pick round in second place, will face Sapa Fehervar. The starting signal for the best-of-seven series between the people of Bolzano and the Hungarians will be given on Friday evening in the Eiswelle. “In Bolzano we have already gotten used to this atmosphere. Whether it is the playoffs of the Italian championship or those of the EBEL makes no difference. The playoffs are the most important moment of every season, the one you work towards all year long. A tough opponent awaits us in Sapa Fehervar. Sure, based on the way the season has gone so far, we are favorites, but Sapa played very well in the relegation round and has a few strong players. It will be difficult to beat them, especially in their home stadium, where around 4000 spectators cheer them on. The home advantage is very important for us. It's important that we get off to a good start. There is only one goal: we want to stay in the race for as long as possible,” explains Stefan Zisser.

The balance of the direct duels in the regular season

In the regular period, the people of Bolzano had the upper hand against the Hungarian team in three of four meetings. They won both duels away from home (6-3 win on September 14th, 7-3 win on December 22nd), but lost in front of their home crowd on October 19th with 3-4 goals after a penalty shootout. Sapa Fehervar made it into the play-offs by winning the relegation round. Coach Marty Raymond's team has a very solid defense and statistically the strongest goalie in the league. Zoltan Hetenyi has saved 92.7% of all shots in the championship so far. The Hungarians' top scorer is Canadian attacker Frank Banham (20 goals and 31 assists), followed by Andrew Sarauer and Colton Yellow-Horn (together they scored 92 points).

Bolzano full at the weekend

The second playoff quarter-final game will be played on Sunday in Hungary. There is good news for the White-Reds from the injured department: Since Joe Charlebois is allowed to train fully again, coach Tom Pokel can make full use of the team at the weekend and can therefore count on a total of 13 strikers.

Ticket information

The price for the stands along the ice surface costs 20 euros (14 euros for subscription holders) and in the curve 12 euros (10 euros for subscription holders). On match day, the ticket booths in the Eiswelle open three hours before the start of the game. There will also be advance ticket sales on the same day (12 p.m. to 14 p.m.) and the evening before the game (17 p.m. to 19 p.m.).
