Bozen's crazy comeback without a happy ending
Bozen against Salzburg – this has long been one of the greatest classics in the ICE Hockey League. On Sunday, the victory went to the Bulls – even though Bozen showed great heart.

It is a special rivalry that connects Bolzano and Salzburg. The Foxes have secured both championship titles in the ICE Hockey League (or EBEL) in the city of Mozart. On the other hand, the Bulls have caused deep wounds for the Foxes in the past two years by winning the final (2023) and the semi-final (2024). On Sunday, the duel entered a new round - and this time the Bulls remained the winners with a 6:3 victory.
It was a crazy match that the 2.700 fans in Salzburg's Volksgarten got to see. HC Bozen, whose Mike Halmo was absent due to illness, got off to a horrific start and was literally overrun by Salzburg in the first third. It was 3-0 after 20 minutes - and the Bulls' victory seemed as good as certain. But then the Foxes showed all their fighting spirit and equalized within 14 minutes in the middle period - 3-3.
The final third was a real thriller, with the match on a knife edge. And Salzburg had the better end of it. The team from the city of Mozart, who have so far fallen short of expectations this season, thus sealed Bozen's first away defeat of the winter. Because Fehervar beat Innsbruck 4-0 at the same time, the Foxes lost their first place in the table.
The key scenes
Horror third | Eleven shots, three goals: Salzburg leads Bozen in the first period. Hochkofler (deflector, 7th), Rowe (hard shot, 10th) and Nissner (in the power play at the far post, 20th) put Salzburg 3-0 ahead. Genoway also only hits the crossbar. |
dream third | Bozen came out of the dressing room transformed and equalized within 14 minutes. Bradley's hammer in the power play went right under the crossbar (24th), Finoro's slap shot hit the top corner (36th) and then Gazley made it 38-XNUMX with a wrist shot (XNUMXth). |
winning goal | In a hard-fought final period, Salzburg defender Murphy became the match winner. His blueliner flew past friend and foe and passed precisely into the far corner. Harvey's view was obscured (51st minute). Then Huber and Nissner scored two empty-net goals to decide the game (59th minute). |
For Bozen, the action continues on Wednesday, when HK Olimpija will be guests at the Sparkasse Arena from 19.45:XNUMX p.m. HC Pustertal, which suffered a clear defeat against Graz on Saturday, will face the Vienna Capitals away on Friday.
