An ugly scene shocked Russian ice hockey: Stepan Zakharchuk's fuses burned out in the KHL game between AK Bars and Metallurg Magnitogorsk. The Bars defender, who is feared throughout the league because of his rough style of play, hit opponent Alexander Budkin in the open ice with a check to the head. Budkin lay bleeding and motionless. Doctors diagnosed him with a severe concussion and severe facial injuries. Zakharchuk initially had to face a game-long disciplinary penalty and was later given a ban for eight match days by the sports judges.
