Switzerland continues without conceding a goal – Hungary surprises

Switzerland also won its third game at the Ice Hockey World Cup and has not yet conceded a goal.

The Swiss defeated Kazakhstan 5-0 (1:0,2:0,2:0) in Group B in Riga on Tuesday and are the only team alongside Group A leaders USA without losing points. In Group A in Tampere, Hungary won against France 3:2 (1:1,1:1,0:0,1:0) after extra time.


Tobias Geisser (5th), Fabrice Herzog (28th), Damien Riat (31st), Nino Niederreiter (41st/PP) and Romain Loeffel (50th) shot Switzerland to their third mandatory victory. Patrick Fischer's team now leads Group B ahead of Canada and the Czech Republic and with an impressive goal difference of 15:0.

In Tampere, France took the lead twice through Charles Bertrand (17th/PP) and Louis Boudon (30th), Hungary quickly equalized thanks to Bence Stipsicz (20th) and Vilmos Gallo (34th). In extra time, Istvan Bartalis scored the Hungarians to victory.

The French now hold four points and are ahead of Hungary (2) and Austria (1), the two competitors in the fight against relegation. Team Austria previously lost to Denmark 2:6.

In Riga, Norway beat Slovenia 15-1 with a goal from Thomas Berg-Paulsen (0th) and thus took a big step towards staying in the league. The Norwegians have four points, Slovenia is bottom with no points.
