Next unfortunate World Cup defeat for Germany

Germany's national ice hockey team narrowly lost the second preliminary round game at the World Cup in Finland and Latvia. The reigning world champion and host celebrated their first victory.

In Tampere, Germany's national coach Harold Kreis' selection lost to hosts and world champions Finland 3:4 (1:1, 2:2, 0:1) on Saturday.

In front of 11.712 spectators in the sold-out hall in Tampere, the DEB team's committed performance was once again not rewarded. Goals from Marcel Noebels (18th minute) from the Eisbären Berlin, Kai Wissmann (33rd) from the Providence Bruins from the AHL and NHL striker John-Jason Peterka (40th) from the Buffalo Sabers were not enough.

Finland breathes a sigh of relief

Joel Armia (10th) from the Montreal Canadiens, Sakari Manninen (35th/36th) from the Henderson Silver Nights from the AHL and Mikko Lehtonen (53rd) from the ZSC Lions Zurich scored for the favorites. The hosts were able to take a deep breath after the start of the World Cup went badly wrong with the defeat against the USA.

Germany lost its opening match against eleven-time world champions Sweden 0-1. With the second defeat, the pressure on the German team has increased ahead of the third preliminary round game on Monday (15.20:XNUMX p.m.) against the USA. Even then, Germany is an outsider again.
