Quake in the Clara team: Former NHL goalie released

Things are going smoothly for Damian Clara's team Brynäs IF in the Swedish second division. Despite leading the table, the club has now parted ways with its regular goalkeeper.

Damian Clara moved to the traditional club in the summer with the intention of gaining match practice and benefiting from the experience of former NHL goalie Anders Lindbäck. However, the 35-year-old has not been part of the team since Friday. The contract with the goalkeeper, who learned to play ice hockey at Brynäs and played a total of 135 games in the NHL, was terminated. The reason? The poor services.

Lindbäck started the season as number 1, but Clara quickly overtook the veteran. The numbers prove this: The South Tyrolean has 13 wins from 17 games, has a catch rate of 90,2 percent and plays a part in Brynäs leading the table. Lindbäck, on the other hand, only won 8 out of 14 games and has a rate of 88,9 percent. “Anders has been a Brynäs player since he was a child. This feels both sad and difficult. But this decision will be made based on what is best for the club,” emphasizes Johan Alcén, sports director of Brynäs IF.

The search for a successor is ongoing

“I wish the team and the club all the best for the rest of the season and for the future,” emphasizes Lindbäck, whose future is uncertain. What is certain, however, is that Brynäs has to look for a goalie. However, given Clara's strong performances, the Swedes are in no rush.
