The 37-year-old Serb cancelled his participation in the event of the eight best tennis professionals of the year, which begins on Sunday in Turin, due to an injury.
"I would have really liked to play, but due to a persistent injury I will not be playing next week," wrote the 24-time Grand Slam tournament winner on Instagram. Instead, Djokovic, who has already won the ATP Finals seven times, wants to recover on vacation in order to attack again next year.
Olympic gold, but no Grand Slam title
This year he fulfilled a dream by winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games, but for the first time since 2017 he did not win a Grand Slam title. Due to Djokovic's cancellation, the field of participants for this year's ATP Finals has been set. Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev will fight for the title in Turin.
